2 West Main St. , New Freedom, PA 17349 717-942-2370
Steam into History, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which operates a steam train to chronicle the role York County, PA., played in Civil War history and to promote the area as a tourist destination. Steam Into History will combine the history of the Northern Central Railway and the Civil War in York County, and plans to be on track for the 150th anniversary of the Confederate invasion of York and the Battle of Gettysburg in 2013. Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address" is today considered one of the greatest speeches in American history. Lincoln's journey to Gettysburg on The Northern Central Railway is one of the many exciting and intriguing York County connections to the Civil War that Steam into History will bring to life. A replica of a Civil War-era train will serve as a rolling history museum, chronicling the important role the Northern Central played in transporting wounded soldiers, supplies, and the funeral train carrying the late President Abraham Lincoln.
